Jonathan Matthews is a Partner and a member of the Private Markets investment team. He is based in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Prior to joining TRG in April 2023, Mr. Matthews was the Managing Partner for Ethos Africa, the pan-African strategy for Ethos Private Equity, which was acquired by TRG.
Mr. Matthews joined Ethos in 2014, was a member of the Executive Committee, served on multiple investment committees and boards. He led the transaction whereby Ethos took over the advisory role on the Ninety-One Private Equity Funds, which owns 7 different businesses across the African continent.
Mr. Matthews has over 16-years private equity and corporate finance experience, gained at Actis, The Standard Bank of South Africa Ltd, and Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein in London.
Mr. Matthews is a Chartered Accountant, CA(SA) and a CFA Charter Holder.
