Prior to joining TRG in April 2023, Mr. Grobler held was a founding Partner of the AI Fund at Ethos Private Equity, which was acquired by TRG in April 2023.

Mr. Grobler has built his career in starting and running businesses with data-driven decision making at their core.  Mr. Grobler pioneered the actuarial pricing of car insurance in South Africa in the 1990’s before moving into the banking sector in roles spanning securitization, corporate debt and dealmaking.  Mr. Grobler spent 7 years in Australia where he started Real Insurance as their CEO and developed it into one of the largest sellers of direct insurance in the region.  Mr. Grobler then spent 7 years in India where he started Quantium’s India office, a leading big data business. Upon returning to South Africa in 2018, Mr. Grobler, together with Mr. Nic Kohler, founded the AI Fund which identifies and invests in business that can benefit from artificial intelligence and algorithmic decision making.

Mr. Grobler holds a Masters degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Pretoria and is a CFA charter holder.
